PRINCIPAL’S MESSAGE

Dear Students and Parents,

It is amazing to see how quickly the first term has passed and what an eventful beginning to the year it has been!

The five day lockdown that we experienced was definitely a surprise, but I feel that we handled it quite effectively. I would like to thank students, parents and our staff for working together to make things as smooth as possible during the lockdown period. I hope that as restrictions relax, we can have more events on campus with our parents in attendance as well.

Term 1 has been a busy time, and not without its challenges. The extended lockdown last year has seen students having to adjust back to a regular school routine, some of our students have needed extra support to enrich their learning and help them meet their outcomes. I thank my staff, both teachers and integration aides for their dedication in helping our students with these challenges.

One issue that I wish to bring attention to is our school’s continued challenge in communicating with parents and families. Some parents do not respond to teachers’ and administrator’s communication such as phone calls, emails or messages through online tools such as SEQTA. This makes the job of connecting with parents in regards to a range of different issues quite difficult. If we cannot connect and communicate with our parents regularly and effectively, a huge part of the education process is incomplete. We need regular and productive relationships between students, parents and our school for real growth and success.

If you need to learn how to use SEQTA, your child's online learning and communication tool, please contact our secretary to set it up on your phone for use. It is a wonderful program that makes lots of things easier for yourself and your child.

Term 2 will continue with a number of important events, including; Ramadan, Saturday Soccer Tournament and NAPLAN. We are planning to have an Eid Festival celebration at our campus on Friday 21st May. If any parents wish to help us with the preparation of the day, please contact the office and you can be directed to the Parents’ and Friends’ Committee.

Our annual Saturday Soccer competition will be kicking off on Saturday 24th April. The tournament will run through Term 2 and 3. Parents are welcome to help as coaches and run Saturday matches. Please contact myself if you are interested.

NAPLAN will begin on Tuesday 11th May, and will be completely online. Our school is prepared to run the tests as we have in the past. If you have any concerns about your child sitting NAPLAN, please contact your classroom teacher through SEQTA.

I hope that the Easter break is a great time for your children and family. Hope to see you at an upcoming event in Term 2.

Regards,
Dr. Muhammed Aksu
